From heritage tours to golf resorts and upscale shopping centers, Hilton Head has something for everyone. But with so many entertainment options, it can be hard to plan your vacation – especially if you have limited time to spend on the island. That’s why we’ve created three sample itineraries with your group’s interests in mind. Pack each of these experiences into one day or distribute them throughout your trip; everything runs at your pace on island time.
Families
Morning
Start the day with a hearty breakfast at Java Burrito Company. Then take full advantage of the island’s fantastic year-round beach weather by heading to the shore. If you go to Folly Field or Coligny, we recommend leaving early to claim a closer parking spot. The kids can play while you catch some morning rays, and watch pelicans gliding over the sea.
Afternoon
When the beach starts heating up, rinse off under an outdoor shower and head to Adventure Cove. The two 18-hole mini golf courses and full arcade are sure to provide hours of family fun (and friendly competition). Creative kids might also enjoy an afternoon at The Art Cafe, a paint your own pottery studio. Choose from hundreds of pre-made pottery pieces, then paint it however you like.
Evening
After eating dinner, head to the Harbour Town Lighthouse, one of Hilton Head’s most iconic landmarks. Watch the sunset at the top of the lighthouse, then join the crowd under the large Liberty Oak to see Gregg Russell, a renowned family-friendly musician. Each concert includes games, sing-a-longs and more. Many families come back night after night because each performance is something special.
Younger Couples
Morning
Take an unforgettable adventure with Island Explorer Dolphin and Nature Tours, which is consistently voted “Number one Dolphin Tour” by the Island Packet. Spend two hours on a guided tour across the marshes of Hilton Head looking for dolphins and other wildlife.
Afternoon
Take your vacation to new heights with a two-hour zip line tour with ZipLine Hilton Head. Get a bird’s eye view of the island’s beauty while soaring through the trees. Prefer to keep your feet on the ground? Take a bike ride along Hilton Head’s 60-plus of multi-use pathways, connecting you to some of the best beaches, shopping, and restaurants in the area.
Evening
Take a sunset stroll along the beach, then listen to live music at a seaside bar or restaurant. This is also an opportunity to visit one of the island’s best-kept secrets: The Jazz Corner. This world-renowned restaurant boasts an intimate atmosphere and outstanding shows.
Older Couples
Morning
Wander through the Audubon Newhall Preserve to discover over 200 species of birds, including the snowy egret, large blue heron, osprey and white ibis. The two-mile trail loops around the pocosin (a Native American word for bog), giving you an up-close view of the island’s unique ecosystem.
Afternoon
Hilton Head is known as a golf destination for a reason! Many of the island’s golf clubs and resorts offer access to some of the best courses in the country. If you don’t play, relax poolside with an iced sweet tea – the ultimate way to enjoy your Lowcountry vacation.
Evening
Visit the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, one of South Carolina’s premiere centers for visual and performing arts. The center offers a diverse selection of events, including live performances, wine and food tastings and community festivals.
